Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic method for detox and rejuvenation. It’s a simple practice, with quite remarkable results. Many have heard of it, but never actually dove in to try it. It definitely has a mystical and exciting vibe around it, which made me eager to try. But what exactly is it? What does it do?

In a (coco)nut shell:

To oil pull, simply swish your choice of unrefined, high quality oil in your mouth; similar to the way you would use a mouthwash. My favorite is coconut oil. This can be done anywhere from five to 20 minutes. The process attracts and removes bacteria, toxins, and parasites that live in your mouth or lymph system, and also pulls congestion and mucus from your throat and loosens up your sinuses, which is amazing! With the help of your saliva, all these scary undesirables bind with the oil, ready to be disposed of. Pulling also helps re-mineralize your teeth and strengthen your gums by thoroughly cleansing the area. This sounds good, right? But how exactly do you do it?

Traditionally, oil pullers used virgin sesame oil. The reason I prefer to use raw coconut oil is because it has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and enzymatic properties. This provides the added benefit of killing any unwanted bacteria that may be residing in the mouth, while leaving behind healthy probiotic strains. A perfect exchange!

To start, scoop ½ to 1 full tablespoon of oil into the mouth; if it’s cold, allow the oil to melt. Now push, swirl, and pull the oil between your teeth, around your gums, and allow it to touch every part of your mouth except your throat. You don’t want the oil getting in contact with your throat because it’s now carrying somewhat toxic material. No gargling!

Have fun with it, though! Hum a little song, or practice deep breathing through your nose. Allow this to be a sacred time. Enjoy the feeling of cleansing, the relaxation with the absence of talking. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of smiling with a mouth full of oil. Something about it just feels so right!

Once your time pulling is over, spit into the trash or toilet, but never the sink — the oil could solidify and clog your drain. Now rinse your mouth out with clean water two or three times. Finally, drink a glass of water and relax. You should be feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

Why oil pull? A popular reason for oil pulling is to find relief from congestion in the sinuses and throat. It is unbelievable how quickly this happens! Immediately after rinsing, you will find yourself blowing your nose and clearing your throat. I have worked with people struggling with chronic sinus congestion who experienced relief unlike anything else, after oil pulling only once! Their condition improved and the congestion eventually went away completely.

I began pulling to benefit my gums and teeth, which used to be extremely sensitive. My gums strengthened, and teeth became much whiter! It also proved to be beneficial to my skin, which cleared up dramatically, and became bright and almost glowing. Swishing with coconut oil has also proven to be beneficial to those with skin disorders such as psoriasis, and is great for anyone who wants to detox and begin taking better care of their immune system.

Oil pulling can be done at any time of the day, but for a more thorough detox, its best to do this in the morning, before eating or drinking. If you are having a hard time fitting oil pulling into your routine, I’ve found a nice time to do this is while in the shower. This way, you aren’t counting the clock until the minutes are up; simply spit when your shower is done.

I hope you enjoy this healing, divine and sensual experience as much as I do. Love the oil. Love the process. Happy pulling!

Searching for the right substitute for toothpastes which is also loaded with fluoride, sulfates, and other such bacteria killers? If yes, then scientific research has some great news for you: A natural ingredient can do wonders to your oral health. This natural ingredient is the coconut oil, better known as magical oil that is full of “miracle” powers. What makes it unique is that it is not only useful to fight tooth decay, but is known as a killer that crushes the yeast, candida albicans from your mouth. This yeast is said to be dangerous, and can cause deadly infections.

Though natural health professionals have been suggesting coconut oil since decades, there is enough of research that proves this natural tooth remedy well.

Treatment for Candida Albicans

Conducted in the Athlone Institute of Technology, some researchers from Ireland examined the after-effects of digested and natural coconut oil on some common bacteria strains existing in the mouth. They came up with some amazing findings: The coconut oil could effectively reduce the majority of bacteria strains, and was also proven to be a good source to eliminate candida albicans from the mouth. Since this harmful yeast, candida albicans comes into existence because of the intake of excessive sugar and processed foods, it is crucial to get a solid solution to get rid of this yeast. And yes, the coconut oil is proven to be the right solution to this.

A Remedy for the “Candy Disease”

Also known as the Candida overgrowth, this candy disease or the Candida infection can be related with various symptoms such as chronic tiredness, digestive issues, and frequent yeast infections. Though patients suffering from the candy disease may know about its treatment already, they can also look forward to using coconut oil for the same. Keeping this in consideration, researchers have been highlighting the usefulness of coconut oil as the alternative for medicines related to dental treatments.

In the report, scientists have reported that this natural oil can be one of the best alternatives to chemical dental products that include added fluoride and different sulfate chemicals.

What to Consider When Buying the Best Coconut Oil

Now that you know about the potential contribution of using coconut oil as natural cure to various dental diseases, it is essential to ensure that you have purchased the right coconut oil. You have two choices, i.e. to buy high-quality, 100% organic coconut oil online, or from a reputable local store. Though the choice is yours, you need to make sure that you buy the right one.

This is interesting. After reading this, you’ll never look at a banana in the same way again. Bananas contain three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber.

A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

DEPRESSION According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills – eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

ANEMIA High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

BLOOD PRESSURE: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

BRAIN POWER 200 students at a Twickenham school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

CONSTIPATION High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

HANGOVERS One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

HEARTBURN Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

MORNING SICKNESS Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

MOSQUITO BITES: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

NERVES Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.. Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

ULCERS The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chroniclercases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL Many other cultures see bananas as a ‘cooling’ fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature. So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has FOUR TIMES the protein, TWICE the carbohydrate, THREE TIMES the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, ‘A BANANA a day keeps the doctor away!’ Source: http://www.karenstan.net/ Read More: http://www.natureknows.org/2013/10/after-reading-this-youll-never-look-at.html

♥♥ "The appreciated world came into being with the development of man's capability for self-reflection, a faculty encompassing much more than just thinking. It holds the world—the physical, social, and spiritual aspects of man's world—as we view it not just through the understanding that our mind composes of it but through all forms of experience. It embraces our appreciation of what this world can do to and for us, and what we can do to and for it... Thus, the appreciated world becomes the motor for change induced by human action." ♥♥

— Erich Jantsch

I quit coffee at the beginning of February,  during a fun challenge at my kids school to cut down on their gaming time -but replaced it with "sugar"...hum...bad idea!

I went through a sugar- cookies binge for a few weeks, winter blues? Maybe, but in this process I was reminded why I always tell my children not to eat sugar. I realized first hand again how damaging and deadly sugar really is in the system. In a three week period my entire system changed, my mood, my energy level and especially the way I saw myself in the mirror...yuk!

Refined sugar, I consider to be a drug, because in the refining process according to Ayurveda- everything of food value is removed except the carbohydrates-pure calories, without vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, enzymes or any of the other elements that make up food-sugar is just a poison.

Many nutrition experts say that white sugar is extremely harmful, possibly as harmful as a drug, especially in the quantities consumed by the present-day North-Americans. Studies show that “sugar” is just as habit-forming as any narcotic; and its use, misuse, and abuse is our nation’s number one disaster.

Sugar manufacturers are aggressive in defending their product and have a strong political lobby which allows them to continue selling a deadly food item that by many reasons should not be allowed in the American diet, just as  alcohol, cigarettes and all that genetic modified foods- but that is altogether another topic of conversation.

Sugar can contribute to cellular inflammation, which is like a continuing series of small cuts that compromise cell function. Deep inside the body, these microscopic wounds fester below the pain threshold. Because many of us don’t see or feel the damage, there is little incentive to cut back on the sugar (inflammatory diet) that is causing this constant cellular damage in the first place... so the beat goes on, but this is not a pleasant sound. Inflammation can unleash dozens of different diseases.

The Immune System will foul-up because a diet laden with sugar creates body-wide biochemical stress and inflammation, it can over stress and thereby weaken the immune system in a variety of ways. One way, is by triggering leaky gut syndrome, which leads to undigested food molecules getting into the bloodstream. When that happens, the immune system has to finish the digestive process which is an overwhelming and distracting effort. This causes our defense forces to get exhausted (over worked), so that when real trouble comes down the "pipe", the immune system can’t respond. A leaky gut can also underlie disorders characterized by an overactive immune system, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and psoriasis.

I hate to be the party pooper here, but it’s time to send sugar out the door!

It’s been a week since I quit sugar again, and already I feel like a new woman...and am still off coffee too! I feel good...I know that I would now!

                                           LOVE YOURSELF...LOVE LIFE!

Who says you have to starve in order to cleanse? Adding nutrient dense foods, coupled with eliminating the most common dietary toxins, will help your body detox daily.

First, lose the sugar; it causes inflamation and encourages the growth of Candida albicans yeast that upsets normal intestinal flora and depletes the liver of enzymes needed for detoxification. Other dietary poisons to avoid: alcohol, coffee, wheat, gluten, dairy, yeast, corn, dried packaged goods, canned foods, microwavable anything and excess animal protein.

Start your morning with a glass of luke warm water followed by fresh fruits. For lunch and dinner eat fiber-rich vegetables, to improve bowel function, and drink plenty of water during the day to flush toxins from the body.

Then include plenty of naturally detoxifying foods, like cabbage, broccoli, leafy green vegetables, bitter greens, garlic, parsley, lemon, ginger, celery, green tea, artichokes, grapefruit, sea vegetables and asparagus.  They’ll nourish your cells and organs, and help you detox daily. Feast, don’t fast, with these naturally detoxifying foods and herbs such as: cumin, cayenne pepper, cardamon, cinnamon, rosemary, cilantro and turmeric and ENJOY LIFE!!!

The four agreements - Don Miguel Ruiz's code for life:

agreement 1

Be impeccable with your word - Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

agreement 2

Don’t take anything personally - Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

agreement 3

Don’t make assumptions - Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

agreement 4

Always do your best - Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

Cancer Fighting Spices

In my humble opinion these spices are not only nutritious they are quite delicious!

Yes, I’m talking about those spices our ancestors knew way back in the days and used in their everyday life knowing that it was good for our health.
Unfortunately we did not
bother to pay much attention
to it and decided not to follow on
their footsteps...
until more recently.

Like a forgotten language we are relearning about the well of health benefits some of these spices have to offer.  Spices have recently been recognized as powerful cancer preventatives and fighters.

Below are five spices that you might want to consider or reconsider adding to your everyday diet:

Picture

Turmeric

Lately turmeric has been brought to the spot light in the spice world as researchers have discovered that, not only does it fight cancer, but contains an entire spectrum of other health benefits, including inflammation-fighting compounds called curcuminoids.
These compounds may help prevent Alzheimer’s, arthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
When used topically turmeric has been known to help heal skin infections.

How can you resist this gorgeous bright yellow sunshine color cancer-fighting spice?
A common sense relationship: sun is life giving & life preserving = turmeric  which is life giving & life preserving.

In a recent accident at work, my love Danial cut himself really bad on the leg needing 11 stitches. After a week the stitches came out but the wound sort of  re-opened  and was oozing. It felt that the wound was taking way too long to heal and so I started a turmeric paste treatment on the affected area. We applied the paste daily, left it on for a few hours then washed thoroughly with soap and water. This went on for over a week and the wound is now finally healing properly. I LOVE Turmeric, it is POWDER GOD!!!

Basmati Rice and Chickpea Supper Salad

The big, bold flavors of fresh herbs and exotic spices–including inflammation-reducing turmeric–makes this a deeply satisfying dish.

A note on turmeric: This mild Indian spice has been scientifically studied for its ability to reduce inflammation. Turmeric’s health benefits and yellow color are due to a group of flavonoids called curcuminoids. Turmeric powder is readily available in the spice section of most supermarkets.

INGREDIENTS
2 cups cooked Basmati rice
2 cups cooked chickpeas
2 bell peppers, red, yellow, or green, or a combination, finely diced
1 cup celery, chopped
1/2 cup green onion, finely chopped
1/8 cup ground flaxseed
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
4 teaspoons sesame oil
Juice of 2 lemons
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon salt
8 cups arugula, chopped
2 teaspoons sesame seeds

1. In a large bowl toss together rice, chickpeas, pepper, celery, green onion, flaxseed, and parsley.

Ginger

For centuries, grandma has been prescribing this knobby little root for an upset tummy but we now know that it holds anti-inflammatory properties, shows promise in treating cancer, osteoarthritis and, when used topically, rheumatoid arthritis. It can be used as an appetite stimulant, immune booster, digestive fire enhancement and a treatment for nausea, whether legit (flu) or not-so-legit (hangover), as well as pregnancy nausea and car & boat sickness. Weather in a cup of hot tea or in a paste for a dal, or a salad dressing, ginger is HOT!!!

Carrot, Ginger, and Beet Soup Recipe

You can’t do better than beets and carrots for sweet, earthy winter nourishment, and this zesty recipe combines them with ginger and a touch of orange rind to make an intriguing soup that will surprise and delight your whole family.

What a tasty way to get your beta-carotenes and minerals: this is borscht with a citrus and ginger twist, a sure-fire crowd-pleaser!

INGREDIENTS
3 medium beets (about 1 pound)
1 tablespoon olive oil/or Ghee
1 cup chopped onion
1 pound carrots, coarsely chopped
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1 large garlic clove, minced
6 cups water or vegetable stock
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
3/4 teaspoon salt
Freshly-ground black pepper to taste
4 teaspoons sour cream (optional)

1. Under running water (this is very messy otherwise), peel the beets with a vegetable peeler. With a chef’s knife, cut the beets in half, then lay them flat side down and cut them into large chunks.

2. In a stock pot over medium heat, heat the oil. Saute the onion until it is translucent. Add the carrots, ginger, and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add beets and water or stock. Simmer the soup, covered, for 50 minutes. Add orange rind, and stir well.

3. In a food processor or blender, puree the soup in batches. Transfer the pureed soup to a large container, and stir in the salt and pepper. Taste the soup, and adjust the seasonings, if you like. Serve the soup hot or chilled, garnished with dollops of sour cream.

Cinnamon

Besides being a yummy addition to coffee, French toast and oatmeal, cinnamon protects against Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Derived from tree bark, this wonderful spice stimulates the bodies circulatory systems. Just half a teaspoon taken daily lowers blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. It also counteracts congestion, may be useful treating osteoarthritis and improves blood circulation.

Baked Apple-Cinnamon French Toast

This baked apple-cinnamon French toast can be prepared in advance and then simply popped in the oven for a leisurely and luxurious weekend morning. By using non-fat instead of whole milk and eliminating the egg yolks, the calories are cut by half and the fat is reduced by nearly 80 percent in our griddle-free version. Note that it requires eight hours of refrigeration time, so plan ahead.

INGREDIENTS
3 cups nonfat milk or I prefer almond milk
2 cups egg whites, or store-bought pasteurized liquid egg whites
3 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1-pound loaf sliced whole-wheat bread
1 cup chopped dried apple rings (3 ounces)
1/2 cup raisins
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1 tablespoon organic confectioners’ sugar (optional)

1. Whisk milk, egg whites, honey, vanilla and salt in a large bowl.

2. Trim crusts off 8 bread slices and set aside. Cut the crusts and the remaining bread into 1-inch pieces. Toss with dried apples, raisins, cinnamon and nutmeg in another large bowl.

3. Lightly oil a 9-by-13-inch baking pan. Transfer the bread mixture to the pan. Lay the reserved crustless slices evenly on top, trimming to fit. Whisk the milk mixture one more time, then pour evenly over the bread. Press the bread down with the back of a wooden spoon, making sure it’s evenly moist. Cover with parchment paper, then foil, and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or up to 24 hours.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake the casserole, covered, for 40 minutes. Uncover and continue baking until puffed, set and lightly browned, about 20 minutes more. Let stand for 10 minutes; dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve.

Yield: 12 servings.

Cayenne Pepper

La caliente-Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, yet another cancer preventative. When used in mass it can cause heartburn but a little sprinkled onto everyday foods should be enough for you to see the benefits. Cayenne peppers are full of beta carotene, other antioxidants and immune boosters and helps to build healthy mucous membranes tissues – our first level of defense against bacteria and viruses.

Phlegm dissolving recipe

2 cups of hot water
1 inch grated fresh ginger
1 whole lemon’s juice
1 tablespoon of honey
¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Drink this mix 2 or 3 times per day for a few days to get rid of accumulated phlegm in the sinus areas and chest colds.

Garlic

No surprise here. The stinking rose is one of the most potent weapons in preventing cancer, particularly colon cancer. Containing the photochemical allicin, raw garlic stimulates the production of cancer-fighting enzymes. Daily garlic consumption can lower total cholesterol and triglyceride levels by 10 percent and has the added benefit of keeping vampires away.

Exemplos destes fatores inclui: dieta e escolha apropriada de comida, estações do ano, temperatura, tráumas, relacionamentos no trabalho e familiar, estado emocional, meio ambiente, etc…

Uma vez determinados e compreendidos os efeitos destes fatores podem ser anúlados e diminuídos ou as causas de desequilibrio eliminadas e reestabelecendo assim a constituição normal da pessoa.

Equilíbrio é a ordem natural; desequilibrio é a disordem.

Vata é a energia do movimento, Pitta é a energia da digestão e metabolismo e Kapha é a energia do lubricante e estrutura celular.

                                                                        Suheila Mouammar-2007
